The working name of Croydon Voluntary Association for the Blind
Croydon Vision and Guide Dogs are working together in delivering the My Guide scheme for Blind and Partially Sighted people living in Croydon and the surrounding areas helping users to gain confidence and independence.
My Guide is a partnership between a fully trained sighted guide volunteer and a service user who would like to get out and about more.
The service user and volunteer meet on usually a weekly basis for two per week. In these meetings, the sighted guide volunteer supports the service user in accessing a range of activities that the pair has decided upon at the beginning of the programme. These activities could include going to the supermarket, visiting a coffee shop, the gym all the way through to a salsa dancing class if that is what the partnership want to do!
Volunteers are trained for free in Levels 1 and 2 in sighted guiding: these courses will give volunteers a nationally recognised qualification as well as the skills and confidence to guiding well. All volunteers are DBS checked and references are taken up.
If you would like to become a Croydon Vision My Guide then please do get in touch with Sue Ardley, the lead guide co-ordinator, on 0208 688 2486 or email@example.com to find out the next training dates.
Or if you feel you would benefit from using the scheme by getting out and about more with the aid of a sighted guide here again please get in touch with Sue Ardley and let her know you would like to be matched with a volunteer.
